DBT-BIRAC Bio-AI for BioE3 Biomanufacturing (Mūlāṃkur Hubs)

Provides a program for Indian AI-enabled bio-manufacturing hubs to turn biotechnology ideas into production.

DBT-BIRAC Bio-AI for BioE3 Biomanufacturing, also called the Mūlāṃkur Hubs call, is a joint Department of Biotechnology and BIRAC initiative under the BioE3 policy. It is aimed at building AI-guided biomanufacturing hubs in India and sits inside a broader biotechnology strategy that links economy, environment, and employment. The call offers up to Rs 25 crore per proposal and is rolling. It is open to companies, universities, and research organisations in India, with individual applicants excluded. The thematic scope covers biomolecular design, sustainable agriculture, synthetic biology, Ayurveda pharmacogenomics, and genome diagnostics, with a project horizon of up to two years. The strongest proposals are likely to read like platform-builders rather than single-use experiments. DBT is looking for hubs that combine AI with biomanufacturing capacity, so the best fit is an applicant that can show a clear production workflow, a credible organisational base in India, and a concrete route from design to deployment across one of the named thematic areas.
