Mission Innovation 2.0 — MASE R&D

Supports Mission Innovation in Italy, offering innovation grants for energy-transition technologies across renewables, storage, hydrogen, and smart grids.

Mission Innovation 2.0 is MASE's research-and-development call set for energy transition technologies under Italy's participation in the Green Powered Future and Clean Hydrogen missions. The program is split into five competitive calls covering non-programmable renewables, storage, digitalization of networks, electrolyzers, and biohydrogen and biofuels. It is not a general grant line; it is a structured R&D call set for applied energy research. The total envelope is EUR 200 million, with project sizes ranging from EUR 500,000 to EUR 20 million depending on the call. Companies must lead the project, and industrial partners, universities, and research institutions can join the consortium. The five calls opened with separate June 2025 deadlines, and all of them have now closed. This route is aimed at consortia that can pair a company lead with technical partners and a workplan that fits a strategic energy area. It is better suited to coordinated applied research than to solo applicants or small pilots. Teams that already have an industrial use case, a partner network, and a path to deployment will fit best with the program's structure.
