PRIN (Projects of Significant National Interest)
Funds annual national academic consortia in Italy through competitive research grants.
PRIN is the Ministry of University and Research's national competitive call for multi-institution fundamental research. The 2026 round is the first annual run under the new Piano Triennale structure, with a €260 million budget and a recurring minimum allocation of €150 million per year. Projects run for three years and sit in the €1 million to €1.2 million range, with consortia built from four to six research units drawn from universities, public research bodies, and, from 2026, AFAM institutions. The call covers the same broad ERC macrosectors as FIS, but it is structurally more collaborative, and 15% of funding is reserved for principal investigators under 40. This is an Italian-language submission process with annual timing: calls by 30 April and results by 30 September. PRIN rewards teams that can show cross-institution depth, a coherent shared question, and a consortium that is tight enough to execute in three years without drifting into a loose network of unrelated subprojects.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
