J-Startup Impact
Supports impact-focused startups solving social issues while achieving sustainable economic growth through ecosystem access and expert consultation.
J-Startup Impact is the impact-startup variant of J-Startup, launched by METI in October 2023. It selects companies that bring positive social impact through solving social issues and realising new visions while achieving sustainable economic growth. Selected startups receive the standard J-Startup support package (event booths, overseas facilitation, government bidding access, business matching) plus expert consultation on impact measurement, global certification and public-attention campaigns. The inaugural FY2023 cycle received 500 applications and selected 30 outstanding startups including Astroscale Japan, WOTA, euglena, Synspective, CureApp and HERALBONY. Nominations come from private-sector experts; METI evaluates impact-measurement maturity (IMM, organisational impact governance, disclosure) as a key criterion.
