KIAT Materials, Parts & Equipment (Soboojang) Self-Reliance Program

Funds Korean firms developing domestic alternatives to imported critical materials, components, and equipment.

KIAT's Materials, Parts & Equipment programme (소부장, 'Soboojang') funds Korean firms developing domestic alternatives to imported critical materials, components, and equipment essential to semiconductor, display, battery, automotive, and aerospace supply chains. The programme also funds recycling and recovery technologies for scarce materials and strategic stockpile management systems. KIAT coordinates with MOTIE's trade-policy division to diversify Korean sourcing of critical materials away from concentrated suppliers (notably China for rare earths and processing). The programme supports both R&D and the build-out of pilot domestic production lines, with downstream qualification and adoption by Korean OEMs as a stated success metric.
