Support for Science-Intensive Startups (Atbalsts zinātnesietilpīgiem jaunuzņēmumiem)

Offers at for science-intensive Latvian startups commercialising research scientific institutions.

LIAA's Science-Intensive Startup Support programme funds Latvian startups built around research results from scientific institutions. It is meant to help teams form, register, and organise around technology transfer, so the programme sits where scientific work begins turning into a company with a commercial plan. For Latvia's startup scene, it is one of the clearest state routes from lab-based work into market development. The grant covers 50% of eligible costs up to €150,000 per application, with advance payment of up to 35% available after a signed investment agreement. Eligible spending includes salaries, outsourced services, prototyping components, participation in international exhibitions and conferences, and indirect costs such as rent and utilities. The call opened on 29 September 2025 and remains open without a published closing date, so the route should be treated as rolling until funds are exhausted. This is the right route for founders who already have a scientific basis for the product and need room to build a team, test a prototype, and start market-facing work. Applicants need to fit the programme's science-intensive startup definition, and the strongest cases are likely to show a clear line from research result to commercial product and an ability to spend quickly within the 50% co-financing model.
