LINGUA Africa Open Call for Inclusive AI Language Projects is a co-funded call under Microsoft AI for Good Lab, with Gates Foundation, Masakhane African Languages Hub, and Google.org as partners. It backs African-language AI work in agriculture, health, education, financial inclusion, and civic services, with a deadline of June 15, 2026. Awards come in three tiers. Data Creation can receive up to $50,000 cash plus $50,000 in compute credits, Model or Tool Development up to $100,000 cash plus $100,000 in compute credits, and Sectoral Applications up to $250,000 cash plus $400,000 in compute credits. Supported projects must produce openly licensed resources. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, universities, research institutes, social enterprises, cultural organizations, startups, and consortia, and organizations outside Africa can apply if they show meaningful partnership with Africa-based institutions, communities, or implementers. The strongest applications pair a concrete sector use case with strong local collaboration and reusable language assets. Open licensing is central to the model, not an optional extra.
