SNII — National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores)

SNII — Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores sits under Mexico's Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation as the country's flagship researcher recognition and stipend program. Established in 1984 as SNI and later renamed to include the feminine form, it recognizes individual researchers whose work produces scientific knowledge and technology. The program has historically supported more than 40,000 active beneficiaries. SNII awards the titles Candidato, Nivel I, Nivel II, Nivel III, and Emérito. Each level carries a monthly stipend paid in MXN that supplements the researcher's institutional salary. Annual Convocatoria SNII cycles cover both new applications and renewals, and decisions are made through peer review by discipline-area committees. Eligibility is centered on individual researchers based at public higher-education institutions or research centers in Mexico. Researchers at private or social-sector institutions can participate when they have an active collaboration agreement with SNII.
