ROSES — Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences

Offers annual United States research opportunities across multiple space and earth science domains.

ROSES is NASA's annual umbrella solicitation for research under the Science Mission Directorate. It sits inside the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and spans Earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, and biological and physical sciences. The program gives investigators a single entry point into a large share of NASA science funding, with separate elements for different disciplines and mission needs. The solicitation runs on an annual cycle and is issued through NSPIRES. Individual elements carry their own deadlines, and the award bands vary widely by topic, from under $100K per year for focused work to more than $1M per year for larger efforts. The current cycle was released in 2025 and remains active into 2026, with notices of intent and multi-step proposal paths used in many elements. Applicants do best when they match one defined element closely, keep the scope narrow, and follow the element-specific instructions rather than treating ROSES as a single generic competition. Domestic and foreign organizations may submit, although foreign organizations generally do not receive funding, and federal agencies other than NASA cannot receive Earth Science Division funding.
