Innovate ND
Supports North Dakota entrepreneurs by reimbursing early market-validation costs before full product build begins.
Innovate ND is a voucher-based reimbursement programme run by the North Dakota Department of Commerce for entrepreneurs building scalable businesses in the state. It is aimed at ventures with at least one founder living in North Dakota and potential to become primary-sector certified, while retail, hospitality, and local service businesses are excluded. The programme reimburses documented expenses in two phases: up to $25,000 in Phase 1 over six months and another $25,000 in Phase 2 over a second six months, for a maximum of $50,000 across 12 months. It follows an annual cycle; the 2026 round opened on 21 April, closed on 14 May, and was followed by a panel meeting on 17 June. Innovate ND rewards founders who can explain the problem, customer, and business model with discipline rather than pitch polish. Applications are reviewed on the founding team, value proposition, customer validation, product development, market strategy, and a 12-month roadmap, so the strongest submissions show that the company can use reimbursement capital to prove real demand.
