MCFA — Modern Cooking Facility for Africa

Funds clean-cooking companies in Africa through results-based support tied to household adoption.

The Modern Cooking Facility for Africa sits under NEFCO and supports private clean-cooking companies working in peri-urban and urban Sub-Saharan Africa. It was launched in 2021 with Sida and is built to push commercial clean-cooking delivery at scale. Ticket sizes run from EUR 500,000 to EUR 2.5 million, paid against verified cooking-access outcomes. Calls are issued periodically, and the target reach is more than 4 million people. Eligible applicants are for-profit clean-cooking companies operating in eligible Sub-Saharan African markets. The programme fits companies that can demonstrate credible delivery, outcome measurement, and the operational capacity to reach households rather than just pilot sites. Because the funding is results-based, the strongest applicants will already have a working commercial model, a route to scale, and evidence that each euro committed can translate into counted access. Applicants are private companies rather than universities or nonprofits, and the route is built for organisations that can absorb performance tracking and phased disbursement.
