NJ CSIT Clean Tech R&D Voucher Program
Connects clean tech startups with university research facilities and specialized equipment access.
The NJ CSIT Clean Tech R&D Voucher Program is a New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology initiative for early-stage clean technology and clean energy companies. It uses vouchers to help firms access research facilities, equipment, and makerspaces at participating universities and government labs, reducing the friction around physical R&D work when a startup does not need full grant capital but does need specialized infrastructure. The current round is open on a rolling basis, and applicants may draw multiple vouchers up to a combined cap of $40,000 within any 12-month period. Vouchers last for 12 months after approval, and any unused funds are forfeited. Eligible applicants are for-profit companies registered in the United States, operating in New Jersey, with no more than 50 team members and revenue below $5 million. The program is aimed at energy generation, storage, efficiency, green buildings, transportation, waste processing, chemicals and materials, and water and agriculture. This program suits companies with a narrow technical bottleneck rather than a broad capital need. The best applications will map the experiment or prototype step to a specific facility, explain why outside equipment is necessary, and show how the work will move the product toward commercial readiness inside the voucher term.
