NWO Veni
Funds NWO Veni for Dutch early-career researchers to launch independent science projects at the start of their careers.
NWO Veni is the Dutch Research Council's early-career grant for researchers within three years of their PhD. It is the first step in the Talent Programme family, which also includes Vidi and Vici, and it is designed to help researchers turn doctoral momentum into an independent direction of their own. The grant runs annually in the Netherlands and is described publicly as EUR 320,000 over three years. That scale is enough to launch a focused project, secure the right support, and build an initial body of work without pretending to fund a large lab. It suits researchers who have a clear idea, a sharp question, and enough evidence of quality to justify an individual move into independence. The strongest Veni applications usually read as disciplined and ambitious at the same time. Reviewers are looking for a credible next step, not a broad wishlist, so the best proposals show why this is the right moment for the applicant to lead a project and why the research question can justify three concentrated years of work in a Dutch setting.
