Catalyst Fund — Influence
Funds participation and membership in international scientific fora in New Zealand through Catalyst Influence for global engagement and sector visibility.
Catalyst Fund - Influence sits under the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's Catalyst Fund and is the stream for New Zealand science-sector participation in and membership of key international science fora. The wider Catalyst Fund runs from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2028, and this stream is one of four alongside Leaders, Seeding and Strategic. The programme uses targeted one-off grants and annual membership investments rather than a single fixed award size. It is aimed at New Zealand researchers and research organisations, with non-profit, university and research-organisation participation allowed and for-profit applicants excluded. The published portfolio target for Influence is 1 to 5 percent of total Catalyst spend. MBIE administers the stream through a mix of contestable and negotiated funding, including individual agreements and memberships where that best fits the international engagement. Applicants are strongest when the proposed activity deepens New Zealand's global science connections, supports meaningful participation in international fora, and aligns with the Government's wider science and innovation priorities.
