Wood Processing Growth Fund (WPGF)

Funds New Zealand wood processors transitioning to durable long life wood products.

The Wood Processing Growth Fund supports New Zealand's wood processing industry as it moves into long-lived wood products. It sits under MPI and is broader than a grant-only tool, because the fund includes the grant-based Catalyst stream and the separate Accelerator finance stream. Catalyst grants can reach NZD 2 million per year and typically cover up to 50% of project costs. The stream is built for feasibility, research, and business case work, and it expects non-government co-funding. Projects must be based in New Zealand and tied to long-lived wood products; wood fuels, single-use packaging, and biomaterials are excluded. The fit is strongest where a processor or supply-chain partner can show a credible step from feasibility to expansion, with capital discipline and a clear product market. MPI's process runs through EOI review, evaluation, contract, delivery, and reporting, so the winning applications are the ones that arrive with a specific project, matched funding, and a direct path to long-lived output.
