Formas Career Grant for Early-Career Researchers
Supports Supports promising early career researchers to develop independence within Formas sustainability areas.
Formas Career Grant for Early-Career Researchers is the council's main independence-building route for researchers at the start of their academic careers. It supports work within Formas' core areas of environment, agricultural sciences, and spatial planning, and it is designed to help promising researchers establish their own line of inquiry rather than remain attached to a senior host's agenda. Two tracks are available: Career Age 0-3 for researchers who earned their doctorate within the last three years, and Career Age 4-7 for those within seven years of the doctorate. Applicants may apply to only one track in a cycle. The program runs annually, is submitted through Prisma, and the 2026 call ran from January to March with decisions expected in October 2026. This award fits researchers who can show early independence, an interdisciplinary angle, and a credible plan for how the project will build a longer research trajectory. Swedish universities and research organisations are the natural home for the work, and the call is most persuasive when the proposal reads as a career step with a distinct scientific identity rather than a short project with no lasting programmatic direction.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
