NSTC Graduate Research Fellowship Pilot Program
Provides monthly stipends to first-year doctoral students at Taiwanese universities for up to three years.
NSTC Graduate Research Fellowship Pilot Program is NSTC's doctoral fellowship for incoming first-year PhD students at Taiwanese universities. It is fully funded by NSTC and built to support new doctoral researchers at the start of their training in Taiwan. The award sits on the academic side of NSTC's portfolio and is meant to stabilize the first years of doctoral study. Each selection round awards 400 fellowships of NT$40,000 per month for up to three years, ending earlier if the student finishes first. Applicants must be admitted to, or applying for, a Taiwan PhD programme that begins in February or September of the academic year, and they must hold valid student status in the relevant semester. The program is annual and is aimed at students starting research doctoral study on time. The scheme is narrow on eligibility but straightforward in design: students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China are excluded, as are part-time or employed candidates and anyone already receiving an ROC government scholarship. The best applicants are those who can show timely entry into a doctoral program, full-time commitment to research, and no competing public scholarship support.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
