UCSF Catalyst Awards

Funds translational research in therapeutics, diagnostics, devices, digital health, and biotools.

UCSF Innovation VenturesUnited StatesGrant

The Catalyst Awards are the cornerstone of UCSF Innovation Ventures' translational accelerator, providing seed funding and industry advisor mentorship to UCSF principal investigators with projects in five areas: Therapeutics, Diagnostics, Medical Devices, Digital Health, and Biotools. Awards focus on advancement and validation of promising solutions — not discovery research — with a clear commercial or clinical implementation path. Once a year, a Fall RFP is issued via the UCSF Resource Allocation Program (RAP) portal. Awardees enter a multi-stage process: initial committee review, industry advisor consultation phase, and final presentation before award selection. Co-funding partners for FY2025-2026 include the Weill Institute for Neurosciences, UCSF School of Pharmacy, and Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine.
