ARIA Scoping Our Planet
Funds planetary measurement and AI-enabled research for better understanding of Earth-system dynamics.
ARIA Scoping Our Planet is an Opportunity Space under the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, the UK crown body created to support high-risk research and invention. This space focuses on closing major measurement gaps in Earth-system understanding and on turning observations into better predictions, with work spanning frontier measurement platforms and AI models. The space operates in the UK and uses grant funding. It is open to for-profits, nonprofits, and individuals registered and operating in the UK, with a rolling cadence and an Opportunity Seeds route that reaches up to 500,000 pounds per project. The active programme list includes Enduring Atmospheric Platforms, a 3.5-year effort led by Rico Chandra, and Forecasting Tipping Points, which targets early warning indicators for Earth-system tipping points. This is a good fit for teams with unusual measurement ideas that can sharpen the quality of observation or prediction without needing a full conventional programme structure. The work is strongest when it can show why a new platform, sensor stack, or model belongs inside ARIA's mission and why a seed award would reveal enough signal to justify a larger effort later on.
