Dementia Frontiers Fund

Funds international dementia teams tackling difficult questions through large collaborative programmes that exceed typical single-lab scope.

Dementia Frontiers Fund is ARUK's flagship international initiative with Gates Ventures, supported by the Robertson Foundation and the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative. It backs interdisciplinary teams working on questions that are too large for a single lab, including how to predict and stage disease progression, how different brain changes interact, and why some high-risk people remain resilient. The initiative began with an expression-of-interest window in October 2025, moved into a seed stage of around £50,000 for roughly 10 teams in March to June 2026, and is set to announce at least £6 million in main awards to four or five teams from November 2026 onward. At least one team is expected to receive follow-on support for three years or more, which makes this a staged platform rather than a single short grant. Its shape rewards consortia that can handle substantial investment, cross-disciplinary coordination, and work beyond what individual groups can deliver alone. The fund is active now, but its strongest fit is for teams with the scope to use early seed support as a path into a larger, more durable collaboration.
