Doctoral Clinical Fellowship

Supports United Kingdom clinicians combining patient care with doctoral dementia research at a host institution.

Alzheimer's Research UKUnited KingdomGrant

Doctoral Clinical Fellowship is ARUK's route for registered UK healthcare professionals who want to build a PhD while staying close to clinical practice. Neurologists, clinical psychologists, nurses, and allied health professionals can use it to run a dementia project at a UK host institution with an established supervisor, with research aligned to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The award covers up to £350,000 across as long as four years full-time, or up to six years part-time, and it includes salary at Specialty Registrar level plus research, training, travel, and patient and public involvement costs. A Clinical Trial Placement Pilot can add up to £15,000 for a flexible-model placement lasting three to four years. The next cycle was set for July 2026, with an October 2026 deadline and spring 2027 decisions. The fellowship is built for clinicians who want a protected research period rather than a one-off project grant. Applicants are strongest when they can show a credible supervisor relationship, a clinically grounded question, and a plan that keeps patient-facing experience connected to a doctoral research track.
