Research Fellowship
Supports non-clinical early-career dementia researchers in the United Kingdom as they transition toward independent directions.
Research Fellowship is Alzheimer's Research UK's early-career award for non-clinical dementia researchers who want to build an independent line of work. It sits within the charity's research portfolio as a career-development route rather than a project grant. The fellowship covers the fellow's salary plus up to GBP 20,000 a year for research costs for as long as three years. Applicants must hold a PhD, be based at a UK academic institution, and have a secured lead supervisor on an institutional contract. They cannot currently hold tenure. Prior outputs such as publications and conference presentations are expected, and ethics or Home Office approvals must be in place where needed. The annual cycle opens in early December, closes in early March at noon GMT, and reaches decisions in July. This award is strongest for researchers who already have a clear niche and enough momentum to justify a step toward independence. Review includes expert-panel triage, rebuttal interviews, lived-experience review for human studies, a short presentation interview, and final Grant Review Board approval.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
