BBSRC Early Independence Fellowships (renamed from BBSRC Discovery Fellowships in 2024) are personal career awards for early-career bioscientists who have a PhD or equivalent and have demonstrated leadership potential and an upward trajectory towards independence. Postdoctoral fellows and holders of training fellowships (e.g., MSCA) are eligible. Approximately 15 awards are made annually from a total pool of GBP 9M. Each fellowship lasts 3 years (extendable pro rata for part-time fellows at minimum 0.5 FTE). BBSRC funds 80% fEC. The scheme runs annually with outline submissions in February-April and full proposals by invitation.
