BBSRC Industrial Partnership Awards (IPA)
Offers United Kingdom researchers a matched collaboration route inside responsive grants with co-funding requirements.
BBSRC Industrial Partnership Awards is an academic-led co-funding route inside BBSRC Responsive Mode, under UK Research and Innovation. It is built for research groups that want industry involvement without leaving the standard applicant-led grant system, and it sits alongside BBSRC research grant and new investigator routes. The scheme remains active and submissions follow the rolling Responsive Mode timetable. The central requirement is that the industry partner provides at least 10% cash of the outstanding project balance. In-kind support is welcome but does not count toward that threshold. Industry partners must be UK-registered or have UK research or manufacturing sites, while overseas partners are considered case by case. Awards can reach GBP 2 million under the scheme record. IPA works best when the science is academically led and the industrial partner is genuinely engaged in shaping the project. Applications move through the UKRI Funding Service, and BBSRC reopened Responsive Mode as always open from 1 May 2026, so the route can be submitted at any time. This is a good fit for teams that already have a collaborator, a practical work plan, and a clear reason the partnership needs cash co-funding.
