BBSRC Responsive Mode (Applicant-Led) is the main open-competition route for curiosity-led bioscience research across the full BBSRC remit — plants, microbes, animals, humans, enabling technology, and infrastructure. As of 1 May 2026, BBSRC reopened this route as 'always open' continuous submission, eliminating fixed application deadlines. Covers two award types: BBSRC Standard Research Grant (up to GBP 2M fEC, up to 5 years) and BBSRC New Investigator Award (same ceiling, for early-career PIs). Industrial Partnership Awards (IPA) and Stand-alone LINK co-funding routes both flow through this same submission pathway.
