BBSRC Strategic Longer Larger Awards (sLoLa) fund ambitious, multidisciplinary bioscience research that requires larger teams and longer timescales than standard responsive-mode grants. Minimum award is GBP 2M fEC; projects run up to 5 years; BBSRC funds 80% fEC. Approximately four awards are made per year. The scheme runs on a two-stage process: teams submit a short outline (assessed without external peer review by the Strategic LoLa Committee); shortlisted outlines are invited to submit a full proposal. The 2026-2027 cycle has outline deadlines 25 June 2026 and full-proposal deadlines 9 February 2027, with award start expected H2 2027-2028 financial year.
