BHF Clinical Research Training Fellowships
Funds clinical cardiovascular researchers in the United Kingdom advancing toward doctoral and physician-scientist development.
BHF Clinical Research Training Fellowships are the British Heart Foundation's route for clinical trainees who want to complete a PhD or MD in cardiovascular science while staying inside a clinical training pathway. The awards are built for doctors who are typically past Foundation Year Two but not yet at Certificate of Completion of Training, and they can also support eligible non-UK residents. The fellowship runs for three years for a PhD or two years for an MD, with salary, research consumables usually under GBP 18,000 a year, home-rate tuition fees, and travel up to GBP 3,000 for scientific meetings. Deadlines fall twice a year, and the 2026 calendar puts the next close on 1 July at 17:00, followed by 13 January 2027. Applicants do best when they present a tightly defined cardiovascular project, a committed supervisor, and a timetable that fits clinical training. The scheme also allows a narrow post-registration window for candidates who have already started a PhD, so timing and eligibility evidence matter as much as the science.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
