Funds outstanding non-clinical cardiovascular scientists in the United Kingdom who need long-horizon independent support.

British Heart FoundationUnited KingdomGrant

BHF Discovery Research Senior Fellowships sit under the British Heart Foundation and are aimed at exceptional non-clinical scientists working on cardiovascular research. The scheme is one of the foundation's senior career routes and is built for researchers who are already operating independently rather than for early-stage students or clinical applicants. Each award can run for up to five years without extension. BHF covers 50% of the fellow's salary, the host institution covers the other half, and the scheme can also support up to two research staff positions, consumables, essential equipment, a £5,000 discretionary fund with institutional match, a £5,000 travel fund, and £1,000 for caring-related expenses. Deadlines run twice a year, with the next dates set for 16 September 2026 and 3 March 2027. The best fit is an established postdoctoral investigator with a strong publication record, substantial grant experience, and a project grounded in cardiovascular biology, epidemiology, data science, engineering, or a related non-clinical field. International applicants, career returners, and researchers moving from industry into academia are explicitly welcome, but applicants who have held a tenured post at the host institution for more than two years are not.
