University of Bristol QTIC / Engine Shed Translational
Funds Bristol quantum start-ups and research teams through early translational support and proof-of-concept activities.
University of Bristol QTIC / Engine Shed Translational sits inside the Quantum Technologies Innovation Centre at the University of Bristol and supports the path from quantum research into a company-ready product. It is aimed at Bristol quantum spinouts and early ventures that need facilities, commercial support, and a home for translational work rather than a standard open grant competition. The route is UK-based, rolling, and oriented to equity-style backing. Awards run from GBP 25,000 to GBP 500,000, with a median around GBP 150,000, and the target stage is TRL 3-6. Quantum technologies and photonics are the clearest fit, and the same project cannot come back through the route again. QTIC is strongest when the applicant needs specialist facilities, investor links, and a practical path into incorporation or scale-up. The Bristol model combines incubation, IP licensing, and commercial support, so applications read best when the technical base is already credible and the commercial next step is narrow and well defined.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
