Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG)
Funds transport proof-of-concept work for industry through university links, backed by Connected Places Catapult and the Department for Transport.
TRIG is a Department for Transport (DfT) grant programme administered by Connected Places Catapult (CPC). It funds feasibility studies, proofs of concept, and prototypes for innovative transport solutions at TRL 2–4. Projects receive 100% funding — no match funding required. The programme runs annual cohorts (Cohort 19 is open as of May 2026, with £2,385,000 available across 53 projects). Individual grants are typically up to £45,000. Over 18 prior cohorts, TRIG has funded 474 projects totalling £17.4 million. Awardees receive technical oversight, business coaching, networking, and potential investor-showcase events in addition to the cash grant. The formal funder is DfT; CPC is the delivery and administering agency.
