The Open Call for Innovation is DASA/UKDI's standing, topic-agnostic route for innovators with disruptive ideas relevant to UK defence and security. Multiple competition cycles run throughout the year, allowing regular submission windows. Funded projects receive non-dilutive MOD procurement contracts rather than grants, and applicants retain IP ownership. The programme is currently paused during UKDI's organisational transition: CY2025 Cycle 4 closed 13 January 2026 and the service is expected to reopen prior to UKDI Full Operating Capability in July 2026. Historical cycles have included Innovation Focus Areas (IFAs) targeting specific technology themes within the open-call structure.
