EPSRC Healthcare Technologies is an umbrella programme under EPSRC for university-led health technology research in the UK. It covers multiple streams rather than a single call, including connectivity awards and larger hub competitions tied to EPSRC's Health Technologies Strategy. The umbrella currently spans work on population health and prevention, prediction and early diagnosis, and new interventions. The current streams include Health Technologies Connectivity Awards, which can reach up to £500,000 per project, and Research and Partnership Hubs for a Healthy Society, which sit in the much larger hub range with up to £12.5 million FEC per hub. EPSRC funds 80% of full economic cost, and the route is restricted to UK universities and research organisations working in consortia or partnerships as the specific call requires. The strongest bids connect a concrete clinical or public-health problem to a credible translation path. Some calls are open and cyclic, while others are invite-only and already closed, so the key is matching the collaboration shape and scale to the stream rather than treating the umbrella as one open competition. Applicants that can show aligned partners, a clear health challenge, and a realistic route to implementation are the best fit.
