Funds flagship social science centres and large integrated grant programmes for high-impact interdisciplinary scholarship in the United Kingdom.
ESRC Centres Competitions are periodic (approximately every two years) large investments in world-leading interdisciplinary social science research. Centres receive £5M–£10M for up to five years. Large Grants (£1M–£2.5M) are also available under this programme umbrella and share the Centres page. The scope includes capacity-building, research infrastructure, and international collaboration. Institutes represent the highest tier of long-term strategic funding but are not typically called via open competition — they are renewed/refunded as existing commitments.
