Economic and Social Research CouncilUnited KingdomGrant

Funded from the UK statutory levy on gambling operators (April 2025), this programme funds interdisciplinary research into prevention and treatment of gambling-related harms. Awards can reach £2,000,000 at full economic cost (ESRC funds 80%), with projects running for three years. The project lead must be at a UK research institution eligible for UKRI funding; co-leads from charities, third sector, government, social enterprises, and UK businesses are welcome. Teams must include people with lived and learned experience of gambling-related harms. Gambling industry organisations and licence holders subject to the statutory levy are explicitly excluded. The programme is coordinated with the Gambling Harms Research UK Evidence Centre.
