Video Games and Gambling-Related Harms
Funds cross-council studies on gambling and gaming links to strengthen prevention, treatment, and public policy understanding.
A cross-council call (MRC, AHRC, EPSRC, ESRC, UKRI) for interdisciplinary research investigating relationships between gambling and video games. The total fund is £5,000,000 with a maximum award of £1,000,000 at 80% FEC. Projects run up to 36 months and must start by 1 January 2027. Priority research areas include prevalence studies, age rating impacts, esports betting, influencer marketing, and gaming/gambling disorder interactions. UK businesses and third sector organisations may co-lead. All applicants must complete a Declaration of Interests Form to demonstrate independence from gambling industry influence. Robust ethical oversight is required.
