The Innovate UK ATI Aerospace Programme is the UK public funding route for aerospace research and development, delivered through Innovate UK and the Aerospace Technology Institute. It is built for UK aerospace companies and supply-chain partners, and the programme now runs through 2030, which gives the sector a long planning horizon for industrial research. The scheme offers grants from £1 million to £40 million, with a median actual award around £8 million. For industrial research in the Strategic Programme, grant support is capped at 60% of eligible project costs. Eligibility is aimed at UK aerospace firms and their supply chain, with projects generally working at TRL 4 to 7 across propulsion, structures, and avionics. The route is strongest when industry partners can show a substantial matched programme, a credible route to commercial deployment, and work that advances the wider sector rather than a single company. Its scale and duration make it a fit for large consortia, platform-level technology, and multi-year development that needs patient public capital alongside private investment.
