MS Society PhD Fellowships
Funds United Kingdom multiple sclerosis PhD candidates with full time early career fellowships.
The MS Society PhD Fellowships are part of Multiple Sclerosis Society UK's career development funding and support doctoral training for strong science graduates entering MS research. The three-year award is made to the prospective supervisor at a UK university or NHS institution, not to a named student, which gives the host group time to shape the project and recruitment. The award covers PhD stipends at UKRI rates, up to GBP 7,000 a year toward tuition fees, up to GBP 45,000 in running costs, and up to GBP 3,000 for travel and conferences. The student does not need to be named at application, and the round usually opens around March with a February deadline and August decisions. This scheme fits supervisors who can offer a clear project, a strong training environment, and a credible route into MS research for a new doctoral researcher. The society uses peer review, lay review, and expert panels to score applications, so proposals need both scientific substance and relevance to people with MS. Success rates were 43% in 2024 and 17% in 2023.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
