i4i FAST sits under NIHR's Invention for Innovation programme and is the faster-moving call for UK healthcare technology translation. It is run with the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre Network and is aimed at medical devices, diagnostics and digital health that already have enough evidence to test in practice. Awards run from £50,000 to £100,000 for 6 to 12 months. Universities, research organisations, charities and companies can apply, while individuals cannot. The work must be UK-based, the technology needs to be functional at TRL 5 or above, and the programme expects prior feasibility or pilot evidence in a relevant community or primary care setting. FAST is most useful when a team needs a short, focused push to get a product through field access or early real-world evaluation. The programme runs several times a year through general and themed calls, so applicants need to watch the calendar and bring a clear use case rather than a broad development wish list.
