SBRI Healthcare Phase 2

Supports research teams and universities in United Kingdom that are turning innovation ideas into reliable market-ready products.

SBRI Healthcare (NHS England)United KingdomProcurement contract

SBRI Healthcare Phase 2 is the follow-on contract under SBRI Healthcare for teams that have already cleared Phase 1 in the same themed competition. It funds prototype development and early clinical evidence work for NHS-facing innovations, again through pre-commercial procurement rather than a grant. Awards go up to £1 million, with projects running for about 12 months. Eligibility is broad on organisation type, since companies, non-profits, universities, and research organisations can take part, but the route is gated: only Phase 1 awardees from the same themed competition can move on. The current source snapshot also places the programme between cycles, with no open call listed as of May 2026. The strongest applicants use Phase 1 results to show that the idea is worth building and can survive a larger delivery phase. Phase 2 is a better fit for teams that can handle prototype work, evidence generation, and the operational demands of an NHS procurement contract.
