Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC)
Supports construction firms in Scotland through joint industry and university innovation partnerships for smarter, lower-carbon building.
Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, now BE-ST, is the Scottish Funding Council's built-environment innovation centre for Scotland. The centre was renamed in April 2022, and its current mission is tied to zero-carbon construction, retrofit, and the wider transition to a smarter built environment. The route is a grant programme with awards from £15,000 to £200,000 and a median around £60,000. It is aimed at Scottish construction SMEs and academic partners, runs annually, and in the structured record is set around TRL 3 to 6 with no match funding requirement. BE-ST is strongest when a project links construction know-how, university capability, and a concrete route to deployment. Its focus areas include retrofit and energy efficiency, housing and manufacturing, and skills and training. Funding flows through the centre rather than as an open call from SFC itself, so applicants usually engage through collaboration and project work. It is one of the better fits for retrofit-heavy consortia that need a named innovation partner.
