Wellcome Career Development Awards
Provides Wellcome Career Development Awards to support eight-year funding mid-career researchers building towards international research leadership.
Wellcome Career Development Awards fund mid-career researchers who are already leading their own research and are ready to build substantial, innovative programmes. Awards typically last eight years. Annual expenditure is usually below £250,000 excluding the applicant's salary; applications above this level face additional scrutiny. Salary can be requested only by applicants on fixed-term contracts or those based in eligible LMICs. The scheme runs three times a year. Eligible organisations are universities, research institutes, and healthcare organisations in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and LMICs (excluding India and mainland China). The administering organisation must commit to either offering a permanent contract by the end of the award or conducting a formal review at least two years before the end.
