Air Force Office of Scientific ResearchUnited StatesOther Transaction (OT)

AFOSR Small Business Technology Transfer is the Air Force Office of Scientific Research’s STTR route for small businesses working with an academic or nonprofit research partner on Air Force basic research topics. AFOSR does not run an SBIR line here, so this is the small-business collaboration channel inside its research portfolio, with AFWERX managing the Air Force STTR program. Phase I awards go up to $100,000 for up to one year, and Phase II awards go up to $750,000 over 24 months. The eligible team must include a U.S. for-profit small business and at least one U.S. research institution, with the small business performing at least 40% of the work and the research institution at least 30%. The program runs on an annual cycle. The strongest proposals pair a credible small-business lead with a research partner that can move basic research toward an Air Force use case. Timing is driven by Air Force solicitation mechanics rather than a single open deadline, so applicants need to track the topic cycle and submit through the required federal portal with the partner structure already in place.
