AHA Postdoctoral Fellowship
Supports early postdoctoral researchers in cardiovascular and brain health research, helping them build independent scientific momentum.
The AHA Postdoctoral Fellowship is the next step in the American Heart Association's early-career route for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and brain health research. It targets postdoctoral researchers with no more than five years of research experience since the doctoral degree and keeps them in a mentor-mentee framework while they build an independent line of inquiry. Awards provide a stipend of $63,480 to $77,076 a year, $12,200 for health insurance, and $3,000 for project support, with at least $1,500 reserved for conference travel. The fellowship can run one or two years, and successful fellows may apply for a second two-year term for a maximum of four years in total. The 2027 cycle followed the same spring-to-summer cadence as the predoctoral award, with a January 1, 2027 start. AHA expects the fellow to write the five-page research plan and devote at least 80 percent effort to research at activation, which makes this a good fit for candidates who already have a sharply defined project and a mentor who can support that transition. Membership at submission is required, and applicants need to clear the citizenship or visa rules before the proposal is filed.
