AHA Predoctoral Fellowship
Supports predoctoral students in cardiovascular and brain health science through mentored research experiences in United States labs.
The AHA Predoctoral Fellowship sits under the American Heart Association, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1924 that says it has invested more than $6 billion in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research. This fellowship is for full-time predoctoral students who want mentored research in cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, or brain health. The award pays a $29,364 annual stipend, $4,550 a year for health insurance, and $2,000 a year in project support, and it can run for one or two years. Eligible students are enrolled in MD, DO, DVM, PharmD, DDS, DrPH, or PhD programs, must be able to devote 80 percent effort to research at activation, and must hold AHA Professional Membership at submission. The 2027 cycle posted in late April, opened in mid-May, and set an early-August deadline with January 1, 2027 start. Applicants are strongest when the proposal shows a clear mentored question and a direct link to cardiovascular or cerebrovascular outcomes rather than a generic biomedical topic. Citizenship or visa status matters at submission, so applicants need to verify that part before building the application package.
