HTMDEC — High-Throughput Materials Discovery for Extreme Conditions

Helps HTMDEC High Throughput Materials Discovery for Extreme Conditions for Army-led research program accelerating discovery of materials for hypersonic.

US Army Research LaboratoryUnited StatesCooperative agreement

HTMDEC (High-Throughput Materials Discovery for Extreme Conditions) is an Army Research Laboratory Essential Research Program focused on material discovery for hypersonics, gun-launch environments, and terminal ballistic conditions where thermal, shock, and impact stresses are extreme. The program combines data-driven design, high-throughput synthesis and processing, high-throughput characterization, and machine-learning-augmented physics modeling to shorten materials-cycle time. External investigators enter through an ARL BAA white-paper pathway (W911NF-23-S-0001) and work directly with program Technical Points of Contact. The strongest participants are teams that connect computation, synthesis, and characterization into one pipeline for physically demanding defense environments. HTMDEC is an active entry as of FY26 and is embedded inside the broader ARL BAA framework rather than a standalone one-pager solicitation.
