ARO MURI

Helps ARO Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative for universities pursuing Army-priority multidisciplinary research.

The Army portion of MURI is the ARO slice of the tri-service Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative, co-sponsored with ONR and AFOSR under the university-research umbrella. It funds large university teams pursuing multidisciplinary basic research on topics selected by the services each year. ARO awards run about $1.25 million to $1.5 million per year for three years, with an optional two-year extension that can bring the total to five years. The program is annual, and the FY26 cycle used solicitation W911NF25S0004. Eligibility is limited to accredited US degree-granting universities in science or engineering; industry does not receive awards directly. The best proposals are built around a real team, not a single lab dressed up as a consortium. Reviewers will look for a multidisciplinary question that can hold together over several years and a university structure that can support large-scale collaboration. Because the service topics change by cycle, a strong submission matches the current Army topic list closely and keeps the white paper focused and specific.
