Commercial Property Acquisition Fund

Backs Washington, District of Columbia businesses with down-payment help for purchasing commercial premises.

The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund is a DC economic-development grant run under the DC Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and administered by City First Enterprises. It helps locally based businesses buy commercial property in the District, so the benefit is tied to ownership and long-term physical presence rather than short-term operating support. Awards are capped at up to $300,000 or 25 percent of the sale price, whichever is lower, and Mayor Bowser has set aside up to $1.5 million for FY26, subject to budget approval. The programme is rolling, and applicants must own and occupy the property for at least seven years. The fit is strongest for businesses that can turn ownership into a stable local base. Because the programme is administered through CFE, applicants need to work through its process rather than expecting a direct DMPED award letter, and they should be ready to show a credible purchase and occupancy plan.
