Regional Direct Air Capture Hubs

The Regional Direct Air Capture Hubs Program, run by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), invests in building four large regional hubs that capture carbon dioxide straight from the air and then store or use it. Each hub links capture plants with transport and storage so the whole chain works as one system. The program was funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with $3.5 billion in total, and OCED issued a further $1.8 billion funding announcement in December 2024. For-profit companies can lead or partner on a hub, usually as part of a team that includes technology developers, infrastructure builders, and community partners. Awards are made as cooperative agreements with cost share, and projects move through staged phases from design to operation.
