Defense Established Programs to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR)
Funds research capacity in universities in underrepresented states through mentorship and collaboration support.
DEPSCoR targets universities in states that have historically received less DoW basic research funding, building competitive research capacity through two tracks: Research Collaboration and Capacity Building. The program pairs principal investigators at DEPSCoR-eligible state institutions with DoW laboratory scientist mentors. Funded primarily through the Basic Research Office (BRO) under OUSW(R&E), DEPSCoR is a capacity-building instrument rather than a frontier-research vehicle. It is specifically designed for underserved states — eligibility is restricted to institutions in states designated as DEPSCoR-eligible by EPSCoR/DoW criteria.
