FARA Fellow Program
Offers selective career support for postdoctoral Friedreich's ataxia researchers through long-term recognition and development pathways.
The FARA Fellow Program sits under the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance as a selective annual recognition for postdoctoral researchers committed to the field. It is less a project grant than a career signal, marking trainees who have already shown strong promise in Friedreich's ataxia research and are expected to stay in the area. The award combines a $10,000 cash prize with up to $4,000 for travel, lodging, and registration tied to FARA's Philadelphia meetings. Nomination closes on June 1 each year, and the award period can run for as long as three years with annual renewal through the nomination process. Fellows also take part in roundtables, present at FARA Flash Talks, and contribute to FA CollaMap, so the programme is built around visibility and scientific exchange as much as funding. The fit is narrow by design: applicants are expected to be postdoctoral researchers with fewer than six years of postdoctoral experience and fewer than four years in Friedreich's ataxia specific roles. Strong candidates pair clear scientific momentum with a commitment to the disease area, since the programme is meant to retain emerging specialists and keep them embedded in the FA community.
